World cup draw [open thread]

i didn't see a thread for the draw, i guess not everyone is on vacation so i put this up in case someone is watching the draw and wants to join me, if not well then it will just me living vicariously through Chile (i really love the way that team plays, is just amazing they may not get to the second round but they are so fun to watch), because Colombia didn't make it.

if someone wants more information on the 32 teams that did make it go here

The colombian broadcast just said that the draw itself lasts 34 minutes but the whole thing may last two hours, good to know.

now that they’re a showing the histroy of world cup, Uruguay over Brazil in 1950, “The Maracanazo”, is and forever will be the biggest upset on sports history. That’s not open for debate

Was researching this morning, saw that only two non-Europe/S. America teams have ever made WC final four (US in 1930 and Korea in 2002), and none have won it, obviously. I figure Africa (esp. Ghana/Cote DIviore) have a better chance of breaking through than CONCACAF or AFC.

by chillicothe20 on Dec 4, 2009 12:31 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, and only Brazil has won it outside of it’s continent and didi it twice (1958, 2002)

How is the draw itself done? Do they draw one team for Group A, then one for B, then C, etc. OR do they draw Group A fully first, then all of B, etc.?

by chillicothe20 on Dec 4, 2009 12:36 PM EST reply actions

they go by pots the only one that knows it’s group is South Africa wich is A, the rest get draw, so yeah first a then b, etc

BTW the fact that we aren’t in the world cup, yet two national tv stations plus the biggest radio station in the country are transmiting the world cup draw shows you how important futbol is in south america

The only thing better than the goal

the look on the Mexican’s faces afterward and the roar that came out of my living room was the Spanish call of it. Even now, when my brother or I see him score for Athletico or score with him in FIFA 10, we bellow out “Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Maxi, Rodriiiiiiiiguez.”
