Update

Most who care about this story already know.

After seven hours of surgery yesterday, Cabañas is under heavy anesthetic while they monitor the situation. According the to doctor, who spoke after the procedure, the surgery successfully solved some blood clotting issues, though they may need to go back in a couple of days to address more clotting problems.

They were not able to get the bullet out. Reports are that it was a front-entry wound and the bullet currently rests toward the back of Cabañas’s brain.

He is currently described as in critical but stable condition.

New to this community and glad to be part of this soccer world

As a fan of Mexican Soccer especially my hometown team Guadalajara, I have been following this story in depth. It seems Cabañas was confronted inside the restroom by someone believed to be involved with Drug trafficking. Not that Cabañas had anything to do with drugs but his brother seemed to be flirting with this drug boss’ girl in the club. When Cabañas was confronted with this he shrugged him off and went to the john… dude followed him with his body guards making sure no one went to the bathroom and shot him there.

There’s been recent news that another player from the same team (America) was shot in the stomach while being robbed in Mexico City. It’s really embarrassing and sad to hear that all this is happening in Mexico’s capital. Corrupt citizens follow corrupt government I guess.

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
