InterLiga 2010: Update
InterLiga 2010 got off to a predictably rocky start. After all: we're taking teams that haven't played for one-to-two months and telling them to compete for a Libertadores spot. It's a tough task.
The big stories: Puebla looked strong in throttling a lost Tigres side; América handled Santos surprisingly easily; Monterrey failed to keep their Liguilla momentum in a nil-nil draw with Jaguares.
Here are the tables and results:
Group A
| Place | Club | GP | W | D | L | GF | GA | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Group B

As most of you know, I am covering InterLiga for a couple of other sites. Come here for the synopses and, if something tickles your fancy, check out these summaries and game reports:

Sunday: Monterrey 0, Jaguares 0
InterLiga 2010 Update: After Match Day 1
Some questions in my mind, after seeing each team's first match:
- Did Atlante playing matches in Abu Dhabi disproportionately help their chances in InterLiga?
- If they qualify, can Club América be a threat in Copa?
- Sub question: Can any other these teams threaten for the CONCACAF title?
- How much does Carlos Ruíz (two goals) mean for a Puebla team that struggled to score in the Apertura?
- Is Monterrey's momentum completely gone?

I thought Atlante looked like one of the most fluid sides (of the two games I saw). The team was obviously helped by their time in Abu Dhabi and were connected passes and runs with precision. Even when they went a man down, they were still able to control much of the game.
Agreed ...
Mr. Shambles. I just thought Estudiantes were so poor at the back. Gaping holes between center halves and the wings that were exploited for the second goal and the subsequent counters.
Atlante’s first goal was a song. Arreola’s blast should be on all highlights, but it’s not a replicable outcome.
You should comment here more, Shambles.

BTW, all
the next-to-last WC Group evaluation will be out late tonight or tomorrow. Most of you expect it will be Group E.
I appreciate all you patience, because as these previews have progressed, I’ve tried to make sure to provide you with the level of information/analysis that you’ve been expecting. You’ve pushed me, and I want to respond. Overall, it’s been one of the most positive experiences of my short writing/analysis career.
In the interim, if people have particular tournaments or competitions they would like to see covered on WSD, please let me know. You know we’re going to keep tabs on Interliga. Likewise, Africa Cup of Nations. What else, be it on the league level or specific tournaments?
This blogs implied purpose is to cover the international game, but I will always let you know what I’m watching, and I will always create a forum for what this community wants.
i have a weird fascination for
Rolfi Montenegro and tend to root for the team he plays, so i’m hardly imparcial towards America, but men they looked extremelly well in their first game. And if they make it to the Libertadores, they are a really dangerous team to play in the knockout rounds.

I completely agree ...
… which is why I was surprised that an announcer on Fox Sports Español was saying Club América didn’t look good. I thought they looked as good as anybody, and I am already thinking about whether they or Monterrey are better equipped to make a run in Copa.
