Security Breach Has England National Team Preparations Taped, Shopped
Reports out of England say the Fabio Capello has had his World Cup preparations compromised by security breaches that have had discussions amongst coaching staff and players recorded.
According to reports, the taped conversations are being shopped to media sources by a somebody who illicitly made the recordings. To day, nobody has paid, and Football Association lawyers have send media outlets a warning letter, stating that publishing details obtained from the recordings would be illegal.
The breach in security that allowed the illicit records is said to have occurred at The Grove hotel in London ahead of last week's friendly between England and Egypt. The subject matter is said to concern tactics and potential player bonuses.
Whether these tapes exist or not, the FA is convinced they do.
The motive for making these recordings seems straight-forward enough. While Capello has hinted at the English press's unhealthy fascination with the negative, this is the act of a person trying to make a buck. Or a pound, as it were.
If the person's able to sell the recordings, it will be to an outlet that assumes it can make money off publishing the contents. Which gets back to consumption.
If the public wants to hear these details and are willing to express their willingness at the newsstand, the tapes will sell, the perpetrator will make money, and the likelihood of this happening against skyrockets.
I'm not particularly interested in the information. Capello could be telling Franco Baldini that he's going to recall Alan Shearer to the team and would give it no more attention than I do to the other rumors that fly around the internet. Unless Capello is willing to put his names or his actions behind something, I'm going to doubt its veracity.
If the tapes mention tactics, are they more reliable sources of information than England's match with Egypt? Or the Three Lions' qualifiers?
If the tapes talk about bonuses, I could care less. It's a part of international soccer that does not interest me.
Maybe there is demand for this kind of behind-the-scenes information, but it doesn't come from me.
Being inside a coach's mind before I see the drama unfold on the pitch? That sounds decidedly not fun.

huh.
I agree with you. I can’t imagine there would be much to learn from these tapes. Everyone knows England’s chances rest on a healthy and in-form Rooney. What else is there to learn about them? Still, it’s an interesting story.
Not mediocre. Right about average
I agere, but...
think of the gossip fodder. In so much as the British tabloids are run on the personality – think of the SCANDAL!!! if one player is getting double the bonus on another. I just don’t care myself, but I imagine Rupert Murdoch’s Sun could spin out such crap for a good month.
